Lucky Ararile, chief coordinator of the Amnesty Implementation Committee has disclosed that about 10, 000 militants in the Niger Delta region may take advantage of the federal government’s offer of amnesty.
Speaking at a news conference on Saturday July 18 in Abuja, Ararile said government had allocated N200 million to cater to the militants at the 50 to 60 camps spread across the six Niger Delta states of Akwa Ibom, Bayelsa, Delta, Edo, Ondo and Rivers that may give up their arms.
He reportedly said: “We are working on about 10,000 militants. Each militant will receive an allowance of N20, 000 per month in addition to N1, 500 per day for food while at a reintegration centre, translating to N65,000 a month.
“Disarmament and demobilisation part of the programme will last 60 days. Thereafter, the reintegration programme is indeterminate.”
Imploring more militants to lay down their arms for the sake of peace, Ararile added that the militants would be rehabilitated in various ways, including skill acquisition, and formal education “for those who want an education.”

Hi Loomie.
I was at the media dialogue. No one said there would be 50 to 60 camps. AVM said there where 50 to 60 militant groups/camps existing of varying sizes acroos the region.
hugs P
Thanks for the clarifications Pam.
